Wool And The Gang Billie Beanie Review

New year, new hat! First make of 2020 is done, and it's the Wool and the Gang Billie Beanie. I got this hat kit from Dave for Christmas and whipped it up in just a couple of days.

Wool and the Gang makes trendy modern knit and crochet kits, along with some seriously dreamy yarn. I made this hat with their Feeling Good Yarn in Cameo Rose and I'm still not over it's light as air texture. It's soft, it's squishy, it's light enough that I can actually wear it in our (barely cold enough to call it) winters in Louisiana.

This hat is a simple flat construction that is seamed together at the end. There is some shaping with increasing and decreasing that was new to me, but was pretty easy to figure out with their YouTube videos.

The pattern was clear, easy to understand, and built for beginners. It wasn't so much a skill challenge for me because I have the basic steps down, but an endurance challenge. I'm pretty new to the fiber-arts world and everything I've made so far has been with chunky yarn.

This hat calls for worsted weight yarn which is much, much thinner than the Lion Brand Thick and Quick I've been using. Not a problem, but holy cow were there way more stitches needed to make this hat than my previous hat attempt! This just made the hat take a lot longer to make than I was expecting, but it was a great project for the holiday break!

The only thing I would change (and it's pretty minor) if I were to make this hat again, is to knit it in the round. Although the flat construction is theoretically easier, I don't love the seam in the back.

Otherwise this is a sweet and simple beanie that will hopefully get a lot of use!
